Nvidia Eyes China AI Chip Deal Amid Trump’s Support

Nvidia is evaluating a new artificial intelligence chip for China that would be more advanced than its current product, the H20. The company hopes to deliver sample units to Chinese clients for testing as soon as next month. According to Reuters, the new chip, tentatively called the B30A, would be based on Nvidia’s Blackwell chip architecture.

Nvidia has struck a deal with the US government to resume selling products in China, receiving a 15% cut of sales. President Trump recently suggested allowing Nvidia to sell more advanced AI chips in China, potentially paving the way for a new partnership. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick praised Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and said he wouldn’t be surprised if Huang wants to sell the new chip.

This deal comes after the US government halted the sale of advanced computer chips to China in April due to national security concerns. Nvidia built its China-specific H20 chip after the Biden administration implemented export controls on AI chips in 2023, while AMD developed the MI308 chip for the Chinese market.
