Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will defend his company’s dominance in artificial intelligence (AI) at the upcoming software developer conference, amid growing pressure from competitors and customers. The event comes as companies like China’s DeepSeek challenge the status quo with affordable chatbots that allegedly use less computing power than rivals.
Nvidia’s Vera Rubin chip system is expected to enter mass production later this year, with details of its technology set to be revealed at the conference. The company faces stiff competition in AI inference, which involves using trained models to produce answers for users. Startups and traditional rivals like Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) are betting on selling chips that can perform tasks at lower costs.
However, Nvidia argues that a new type of AI called “reasoning” plays in its favor, as it excels at generating text and processing complex data. Industry experts believe the market for inference will be larger than training, but Nvidia’s share may decrease as competitors gain ground.
Nvidia is also exploring quantum computing and humanoid robots, with Huang set to deliver a keynote address on Tuesday. The company has announced plans to devote a full day to the state of the quantum industry, following comments by Huang that sparked shares of AI companies to decline.
As Nvidia defends its dominance in AI, it must navigate the challenges posed by technological change and competition from startups and traditional rivals. With a market share exceeding 90%, Nvidia owns the training market but faces stiff competition in inference, where prices are expected to decrease.
