NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Outperforms GTX 1080 Ti at Stock Clocks

NVIDIA’s latest entry-level GPU, the GeForce RTX 5050, has surpassed the performance of the popular GTX 1080 Ti in various games. Despite being the slowest card in its Blackwell lineup, the RTX 5050 delivered a significant 17.5% boost in average performance compared to the GTX 1080 Ti.

The news comes as a surprise, considering the GTX 1080 Ti was once considered the strongest gaming GPU available. However, with the introduction of the RTX 50 series, NVIDIA’s entry-level GPU has caught up and even surpassed its predecessor.

In tests using popular games like RDR 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and SOTR, the RTX 5050 performed better than the GTX 1080 Ti at stock clocks. Even when overclocked with a custom liquid cooling solution, the GTX 1080 Ti was only able to secure a 3% performance improvement.

On the other hand, the RTX 5050 showed impressive performance gains when overclocked, reaching speeds of over 3.3 GHz and achieving a score of 11,377 points in 3DMark Time Spy Graphics. The RTX 5050’s average performance gain was 17.55%, a notable improvement considering it didn’t require advanced cooling solutions.

While the GTX 1080 Ti remains one of the greatest NVIDIA GPUs ever created, it appears its time has come to an end. With multiple options available in the RTX 50 and RX 9000 series, including the RTX 5050, gamers may want to reconsider upgrading to this more modern and powerful GPU.
