NVIDIA has published its 570.86.16 beta Linux driver, providing support for the newly released GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 graphics cards. The new driver also includes several improvements over the current stable NVIDIA 565 driver series.
Key features of the 570.86.16 beta driver include:
* Adaptation of the NVIDIA Settings control panel to use NVML instead of NV-CONTROL API for fan/clock control
* Support for VRR on systems with multiple displays
* Performance improvements for newer games, including Indiana Jones
* Support for the Vulkan incremental present extension
* 32-bit compatibility support for the NVIDIA GBM back-end
* Compatibility updates for newer versions of the Linux kernel
Notably, GPU overclocking is now available by default in the NVIDIA Settings GUI, rather than requiring a manual configuration option.
The driver can be downloaded from NVIDIA’s website. NVIDIA also plans to release gaming benchmarks for the GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, complementing existing GPU compute benchmarks on Phoronix.
