Nvidia, a leading tech company that surged in value last year, is moving its supply chain away from Asia due to growing tariff threats. The company aims to manufacture $500 billion worth of electronics in the US over four years, with plans to produce hundreds of billions of chips locally.
Huang, Nvidia’s CEO, stated that they plan to tap into the US market to diversify their operations and reduce reliance on volatile regions like Taiwan. This move is seen as a strategic response to safeguard against potential trade disruptions and tariffs imposed by countries like China.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), another prominent chip manufacturer, has also announced plans to expand its US production, with an additional $100 billion investment in Arizona. TSMC aims to diversify its operations outside of Taiwan due to ongoing tensions between the country and China.
Meanwhile, Apple has made a significant commitment to investing over $500 billion in the US and hiring 20,000 employees over four years. The company plans to expand chip and server manufacturing, as well as skills development programs across the country.
These developments signal a growing trend of major tech companies shifting their operations back to the US in response to global trade tensions and tariff threats.
