NVIDIA is set to ramp up production of its GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs to meet growing demand and address the shortage of its ultra-enthusiast models. The company has been buying up large quantities of TSMC yields for B200 silicon, but the market’s reduced appetite for these chips has created a surplus.
As a result, NVIDIA will utilize the excess semiconductor wafers to manufacture RTX 50 series GPUs, a move that aims to capitalize on the increasing popularity of gaming laptops. The company has only released its high-end GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 models so far, but plans to introduce more affordable options like the RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5070, and RTX 5060 in the coming weeks.
This production shift is a strategic response to NVIDIA’s reduced demand for its higher-end Blackwell B200 AI GPU designs. With companies shifting towards custom ASIC designs, there are now unused semiconductor wafers that the company can repurpose to meet the growing demand for its GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs.
