Nvidia Unveils Portable Mini Supercomputer for AI Research

Nvidia has introduced a line of mini desktop supercomputers, the DGX Spark and DGX Station machines, designed to deliver unprecedented processing power in a portable, desktop-friendly chassis. The powerful computers can run advanced AI models and are powered by Nvidia’s Blackwell Ultra platform, promising up to a petaFLOP in processing power – 1,000 times faster than the best laptops or high-end desktop PCs.

The DGX Spark is a compact device, smaller than a laptop, standing just under 2 inches in height and slightly under 6 inches in width. It comes with 128 gigabytes of unified system memory and Nvidia’s full stack of AI software, including pre-trained models like the CUDA Deep Neural Network library. The Nvidia version of the DGX Spark is available to reserve online starting at $3,999.

The larger DGX Station machine features a GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Desktop Superchip, containing 748 GB of large coherent memory, and enables network connectivity at up to 800 gigabits per second. It is designed for massive-scale AI training and inferencing workloads from the comfort of your desktop, without needing additional cloud resources.

Nvidia’s founder and CEO Jensen Huang stated that the new DGX machines represent a natural next step in AI development, enabling AI to span from cloud services to desktop and edge applications. The computers are available for reservation starting this year, with other models expected to be released from manufacturers like ASUS, Dell, and Lenovo later in 2025.
