Nvidia Unveils ‘Robot Brain’ Chip Module for $3,499 as Developer Kit

Nvidia has launched its latest robotics chip module, the Jetson AGX Thor, priced at $3,499 as a developer kit. The company calls this chip a “robot brain,” enabling customers to create robots.

The first shipments of kits are set to arrive next month. After prototyping with the developer kit, companies can purchase Thor T5000 modules for production-ready robots, with prices varying depending on quantity.

In robotics, Nvidia aims to generate significant revenue growth, as CEO Jensen Huang has stated that it’s the company’s largest growth opportunity outside of artificial intelligence.

The Jetson Thor chips are 7.5 times faster than Nvidia’s previous generation and come equipped with 128GB of memory. These features allow for efficient execution of large language models and visual models essential for humanoid robots.

Several prominent companies, including Agility Robotics, Amazon, Meta, Boston Dynamics, and Field AI, are using the Jetson chips. Despite accounting for only 1% of Nvidia’s total revenue, robotics is growing rapidly.

Nvidia’s business units have been combined to report $567 million in quarterly sales from its automotive and robotics divisions, representing a 72% increase on an annual basis. The company also plans to utilize the Jetson Thor chips in self-driving cars, particularly those from Chinese brands.
