Nvidia is launching its next-gen RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs, along with a significant update for existing RTX owners. The new GPU driver (572.16) enables DLSS 4 in games or apps that don’t currently support it, offering improved image quality and reduced VRAM usage. Existing RTX owners can also activate an override feature to switch to Nvidia’s transformer model, improving image quality in games using DLSS.
The update also introduces a new frame generation model for RTX 40-series GPUs, which is 40% faster and uses 30% less VRAM than the previous one. Additionally, Nvidia has improved its RTX Video Super Resolution (VSR) feature, now using 30% fewer GPU resources on the highest-quality setting.
For those purchasing RTX 50-series cards, DLSS Multi Frame Generation is available, generating three additional frames per traditionally rendered frame. The new Smooth Motion feature, exclusive to the RTX 50-series, enables smoother gameplay by inferring an additional frame between two rendered frames. Nvidia says Smooth Motion doubles “the perceived frame rate” in games without DLSS support.
The new drivers can be downloaded directly from Nvidia’s website or through the Nvidia app.
