NY AG Letitia James Greeted by Cheers After Not Guilty Plea on Bank Fraud Charges

New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Trump target, was greeted by cheering supporters outside a Virginia federal courthouse after she pleaded not guilty to charges of bank fraud and making false statements. This move marks the next step in President Donald Trump’s perceived foes facing federal charges during his second term. James has denied the allegations, calling it “revenge” from Trump.

James received support from across the country, quoting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech to say, “Justice will rain down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.” Supporters chanted her name as she approached the crowd after her plea, while James’ lawyer Abbe Lowell stated that the case seems driven by Trump’s desire for revenge.

The charges against James accuse her of trying to defraud two financial institutions by mischaracterizing a property purchase. However, James claims this is an attempt to target her. Her office had previously brought civil charges against Trump in 2022, which led to him being ordered to pay around $454 million as a penalty.
