New York Governor Kathy Hochul has launched a new website aimed at increasing measles vaccine access and supporting the state’s public health response amid the ongoing outbreak. The move comes after four cases of measles were reported in New York, bringing the total number of cases in the US to 350.
While Hochul emphasizes that the current number of cases is not cause for concern, she urges caution due to high numbers across the border in Ontario and internationally. Vaccinations remain the best protection against measles, and the state is committed to supporting those who are hesitant about getting vaccinated.
Hochul encourages anyone unsure about the vaccine to seek guidance from healthcare professionals. To achieve herd immunity, vaccination rates need to be at or above 95%. Currently, some New York counties have vaccination rates between 77% and 82%, with Vermont’s rate standing at almost 93%.
The new website provides a platform for residents to access information on measles prevention, vaccine locations, and support services. Hochul stresses the importance of taking proactive steps to protect public health.
