The New York Times has released its weekly Connections puzzle for Sunday, December 8. To solve the puzzle, you’ll need to figure out four groups of four words each by identifying connections between them. The yellow group is usually the easiest, followed by blue and green, with purple being the most challenging.
To get started, look at the provided list of 16 words: SANDWICH, CATERPILLAR, SHOEHORN, SEOUL, SLUG, WRAP, WEDGE, SOCK, PUMA, BELT, METTLE, DOVE, INDY, GREYHOUND, BLOW, and SQUEEZE.
The yellow group is “punch,” consisting of BELT, BLOW, SLUG, and SOCK. The green group is “cram,” made up of SANDWICH, SHOEHORN, SQUEEZE, and WEDGE. The blue group contains companies named after animals: CATERPILLAR, DOVE, GREYHOUND, and PUMA.
The purple group involves homophones of music genres: INDY, METTLE, SEOUL, and WRAP.
If you’re having trouble solving the puzzle, check out the hints for each group without revealing which words belong to them. You can also find archives of previous games on the New York Times website if you have an All Access or Games subscription.
In today’s game, Kris Holt, a writer covering video games and casual word games, shares his solution with the “punch” yellows being BELT, BLOW, SLUG, and SOCK. He used SOCK to unlock the yellows and then grouped up animal names for the blues.
