The Blue Zones’ residents attribute their longevity to various factors, including limiting calorie intake, focusing on plant-based products, and prioritizing family time. However, oatmeal stands out as a simple yet effective breakfast option.

Research by scientists studying the habits of Marge Jetton, a centenarian from Loma Linda, California, found that she consumes oatmeal daily after rising early. The researchers discovered that oatmeal provides a “complete package of health benefits” due to its high content of nutrients and disease-preventing phytochemicals.

A nutritionist, Helen Bell, also praises the benefits of oatmeal, citing its ability to lower cholesterol levels and support heart health through its soluble fibre called beta-gluten. This component may help prevent heart disease by reducing cholesterol absorption and stimulating the immune system.
