NXT kicked off its premium live event, Deadline, last night in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The men’s Iron Survivor Challenge was held to determine the next top contender for the NXT championship. Due to injuries sustained from a recent attack on NXT TV, Eddy Thorpe was replaced by Oba Femi.
The match began with Je’Von Evans and Wes Lee. After Evans was sent to the penalty box, Nathan Frazer entered as the third participant. Ethan Page then joined the match, but was quickly pinned by Frazer via rollup. The four men fought back-and-forth until Oba Femi, the longest-reigning North American champion in NXT history, entered.
Femi scored a fall by pinning Evans and went on to take down the remaining opponents. Despite time running out, he managed to hit a double chokeslam and pinned two guys at once to take the lead. In the end, Femi emerged as the new top contender for the NXT championship.
