Oblivion Remake Leaked Details Suggest Big Changes

A former employee at game support studio Virtuos has leaked details about an unannounced Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake, set for release in 2025. According to Mp1st, the remake will use Unreal Engine 5, suggesting a significant rework rather than a straightforward remaster.

Gameplay changes include tweaks to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, and hit reaction systems. The blocking system has been revamped with an action game focus, making it less “boring” and “frustrating”. Sneak icons are now highlighted, damage calculation is revamped, and the knockdown from depleted Stamina is harder to trigger.

The user interface (HUD) has also been redesigned to make it easier to understand. Hit reactions have been added for clearer response times, while Archery has been modernized in both first-person and third-person perspectives.

This leak comes after a list of unannounced Bethesda games was published as part of the Federal Trade Commission versus Microsoft trial over the buyout of Activision Blizzard in 2023. Although some games were delayed or canceled, the Oblivion remake appears to be a priority project for Microsoft’s gaming division.

The release date for the Oblivion remake remains unclear, but an alleged leak from Leaker NateTheHate suggests it may launch this June. The Xbox Developer Direct next week is expected to reveal more information about the game and other upcoming titles from ZeniMax-owned id Software.
