Offshore oil workers in the North Sea face a strict weight limit – if they don’t meet it, their jobs could be at risk. The industry body Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) has set a maximum clothed weight of 124.7kg for workers flying to and from offshore platforms. This means that over 2,200 workers are currently above the limit. Industry experts hope the new policy will not lead to job losses, but some workers fear it could, especially those who are naturally larger built or extremely fit but still above the weight limit. The mandatory implementation of the new policy begins in November next year and is part of a broader effort to improve safety standards in the industry.
