The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife has confirmed 24 white-tailed deer from across the state tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD) during the 2024-25 hunting season. A total of 5,783 deer were tested. Hunters in Allen, Hardin, Marion, and Wyandot Counties accounted for 23 positive cases. Notably, a hunter’s deer in Morrow County also tested positive, marking the first time CWD was found in this county. CWD is a fatal neurological disease primarily affecting white-tailed deer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate there is no conclusive evidence that CWD can be transmitted to humans.
