Ohio Records Center Lease Canceled, Estimated Savings Revealed

A federal records center in Fairfield, Ohio, has been added to the list of properties with canceled leases published by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The 124,569-square-foot facility had an annual lease value of $478,213 but is estimated to cost less than a month’s rent. The closure was announced last August and is expected to save the government around $39,851.

The building has been used as a federal records center since 2010, with Kansas City-based KH Bluestream LLC initially paying $2.6 million for it. However, an analysis by Congressman Greg Landsman suggests that the actual cost savings may be lower than claimed by DOGE.

Landsman noted that while DOGE claims to have saved billions of dollars, the actual amount is likely much lower. The congressman called on the public to scrutinize these claims more closely.

The lease cancellation could bring economic benefits to Fairfield, as the city’s industrial market is strong.
