Ohio State Wins First National Championship Since 2014

Ohio State has won its first national championship since 2014, taking the top spot in the final Associated Press Top 25 college football poll after beating Notre Dame in the championship game. The Buckeyes finished with a perfect season under coach Ryan Day, although they suffered their lowest ranking of the season at No. 7, following a loss to Michigan.

The team’s dominant run through the College Football Playoff led to every first-place vote, with Oregon finishing second and Texas rounding out the top five. The Big Ten has had three teams in the final top five for the first time, highlighting the conference’s success this season.

Georgia, Arizona State, Boise State, Tennessee, and Indiana rounded out the top 10, while Ole Miss, BYU, and SMU also received high rankings. Alabama took the biggest fall, dropping six spots to No. 17 after a disappointing bowl performance.

The Buckeyes’ sixth AP national championship has been a long time coming, with their previous titles in 1942, 1954, 1968, 2002, and 2014. The team’s highest finish was at No. 6 heading into the playoff, where they played well to win the championship.

The SEC had seven teams ranked, the most since 2013, while the Big Ten dominated with five teams in the final top 25.
