Ohio State’s 2024-25 season came to an end in the second round of the NCAA Tournament after suffering a 15-point loss to No. 5 seed Tennessee on Sunday night at home. The Buckeyes were outscored by 37 points from turnovers, forcing them into 23 errors that led to 82 points for the Volunteers.
“We didn’t play well enough to win,” said Coach Kevin McGuff, who credited Tennessee with playing well and deserving the victory. “I think just looking at the stats, it’s clear we didn’t give ourselves a chance to win.”
Ohio State started strong, taking an early double-digit lead before Tennessee responded with a 12-2 run to cut the deficit in half. The Buckeyes maintained leads throughout the first quarter but struggled to hold on as Tennessee took control.
The Volunteers extended their lead to 17 points in the third quarter and held off Ohio State’s late surge. “It was a game of runs, they went on theirs and we couldn’t keep the momentum,” said Taylor Thierry.
Ohio State ends the season with a 26-7 record, which is now 13-8 in the NCAA Tournament under Coach McGuff. The loss marks the Buckeyes’ fourth consecutive second-round exit and their only home loss of the season.
