Oil and Gas Firms Sued for Role in Heat Wave Deaths

A woman’s daughter is suing seven oil and gas companies over her mother’s death during the 2021 Pacific Northwest heat wave. Juliana Leon died from hyperthermia after temperatures soared to 108 degrees, contributing to nearly 200 deaths in the region. This lawsuit accuses the fossil fuel firms of concealing their role in climate change and failing to warn about the dangers of their emissions.

A new report highlights the devastating impact of human-created climate change, revealing that half the world’s population experienced 30 additional days of extreme heat over the past year.
