During his time at Oklahoma, Castiglione earned numerous accolades, including the Athletic Director of the Year award by Sports Business Journal in 2009 and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics award for top athletic director in 2000 and 2018. His impact on the college athletics industry is evident in the success of his employees, with 32 of them going on to become athletic directors or commissioners.
Castiglione’s legacy extends beyond Oklahoma’s football program, which has struggled in recent years under coach Brent Venables. The men’s basketball team reached the NCAA tournament in 2025, snapping a three-year drought under coach Porter Moser. Castiglione played a significant role in shaping the programs that have led to these successes.
