OLED MacBook Pro Release Date Set for 2026

Apple’s first OLED MacBook Pro is still on track for a 2026 release, according to a new report from The Elec. Samsung Display is currently producing test samples of the OLED panels on its IT 8th-generation machine. However, industry projections suggest that only 3-5 million OLED panels will be shipped annually for the MacBook Pro, which is lower than the supplier’s capacity.

The upcoming MacBook Pro will feature hybrid OLED technology, offering improved brightness, contrast, and power efficiency compared to current models with mini-LED screens. Samsung Display has invested $3 billion in its IT 8th-generation OLED production line. Meanwhile, Chinese display maker BOE is also developing manufacturing capabilities for hybrid OLED panels.

Analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young have predicted that the MacBook Pro will continue to use mini-LED displays in 2025, with only a small performance boost expected. However, Apple analyst Mark Gurman expects the 2026 MacBook Pro model to represent a “true overhaul” due to the combination of OLED display and thinner design.

The company is reportedly working to create “the thinnest and lightest products in their categories.” The OLED MacBook Pro will likely be released with a new design that will make it one of the thinnest laptops on the market.
