Apple is working on bringing OLED technology to its laptops, with future MacBook Pro models set to feature hybrid OLED panels. This upgrade will likely improve brightness, contrast, and power efficiency compared to the current mini-LED screens.
According to reports, Apple’s tandem OLED method could enable thinner chassis designs, potentially leading to a “true overhaul” of the MacBook Pro. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman claims that this upgrade is on track for 2026, with significant improvements in display quality and design.
However, MacBook Air fans are facing disappointment, as the OLED laptop has been delayed from 2027 to 2029. Instead, Apple will launch a stopgap version of the MacBook Air with an improved LCD display in 2027. This upgraded screen may bring better image quality, longer battery life, and smoother performance.
The delay for the OLED MacBook Air raises concerns about its availability, especially when compared to rival laptops that already offer high-quality OLED screens. Apple’s ability to deliver a class-leading OLED laptop in the future could provide some comfort, but it will be a long wait for MacBook Air fans who have been eager for this technology.
