Actors Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch are set to star together in the upcoming marriage-comedy “The Roses”. In an interview, they shared their secrets to a lasting marriage. Both have been married for over two decades.
Colman, 51, has been with her husband Ed Sinclair since 2001, while Cumberbatch, 49, has been with his wife Sophie Hunter since 2015. They both believe in the power of love and are willing to work on their relationships.
“Classicism has given us this ideal of love,” says Cumberbatch. “But in reality, it’s hard to live up to. It’s not just about falling in love, but also finding something beyond that initial feeling.”
Colman agrees, saying she likes to romanticize love and find the romance in everyday life. However, both actors acknowledge that marriage requires more than just idealism.
“There has to be a cool thing beyond the vows,” Cumberbatch emphasizes. “It’s about expressing love and having it reflected back by those around us.”
Both Colman and Cumberbatch confirm they are still deeply in love after decades of marriage. They also show a lighthearted side, joking that even with long-term relationships, some annoyance is inevitable.
“I’m quite in love,” Colman says with a smile, to which Cumberbatch replies, “I am too! It’s all great. And I know Ed annoys you sometimes.”
