Olympic Runner Fred Kerley Arrested After Confrontation with Police

U.S. Olympic runner Fred Kerley, 29, was arrested on Thursday in Miami Beach after a confrontation with police. Body camera footage shows Kerley arguing with officers before a physical altercation broke out.

According to the arrest report, Kerley approached an active police scene and tried to force his way through to his vehicle. Officers had told him to go around, but he began arguing, leading to a shoving match. Four officers attempted to take Kerley into custody as he evaded arrest. He was stunned with a Taser and taken to the hospital before being booked at the Miami-Dade County jail.

Kerley faces charges of battery, resisting an officer, and disorderly conduct. His defense attorney claimed that the incident was an “overreaction” by the police, stating that Kerley is a model citizen in the community and has won numerous medals in track and field events, including silver at the 2020 Olympics and bronze at the 2024 Olympics.
