Omega-3 and Vitamin D Supplements Slow Biological Ageing by 3-4 Months

Researchers Heike Bischoff-Ferrari and Steve Horvath, who take daily omega-3 and vitamin D supplements to prevent ageing-related health issues, have found that these supplements slow biological ageing by three to four months when combined with exercise. The study, published in Nature Aging, analysed data from over 700 people aged 70 or over who took part in the DO-HEALTH trial.

The researchers discovered that omega-3 and vitamin D supplements slowed biological ageing when used together with exercise, reducing age-related decline by 2.9-3.8 months. On its own, omega-3 supplementation had a similar effect on three epigenetic clocks.

The findings suggest that these supplements could lead to important public health benefits, such as a reduction in age-related health conditions.
