Omega-3 Supplement Turns Back Biological Clock by Up to Four Months

Researchers have pinpointed an omega-3 supplement as a potential game-changer for slowing down the aging process. In a three-year study involving 777 participants aged 70 and above, analysis of blood samples revealed that daily consumption of the supplement ‘turned back the clock’ on biological age by up to four months.

The study found that combining omega-3 with vitamin D supplements and regular exercise had a stronger effect on reducing biological age. Researchers also discovered that these interventions reduced falls by 11%, infections by 13%, and cancer risk by 61% in combination with frailty reduction by 39%.

While the trial only involved participants taking omega-3 tablets, further research is needed to determine if similar results can be achieved through food sources such as nuts and oily fish.

The study’s findings are significant for future aging research, providing a prototype for exploring interventions that influence epigenetic markers of biological age. The discovery has reinforced the importance of moderate lifestyle choices, including omega-3 supplements, vitamin D, and regular exercise, in extending one’s healthspan.
