OnePlus has promised to support its Watch 3 with two software updates until early 2027. This is a step down from the previous generation’s three-year update cycle. The company also guarantees two years of bi-monthly security patches through 2027.
The limited update policy might be a concern for some users, as it falls behind Samsung and Google in terms of long-term support. However, OnePlus does offer more frequent updates than brands like Xiaomi and TicWatch, which provide no guaranteed update cycle.
One new feature set to launch with the upcoming software update is 60-second Health Check-In with ECG, which uses seven key indicators for vascular health, ECG, sleep monitoring, heart rate, SpO2, and wrist temperature. The OnePlus Watch 3 will also receive updates until 2027, but the exact release schedule remains uncertain.
The company’s decision to limit update cycles may be seen as a trade-off for other features, such as a good-looking design and durable build with MIL-STD-810H water and dust-proofing. With up to five days of battery life in Smart mode, the Watch 3 offers impressive endurance for its class.
