Onkyo Embarks on New Chapter with Reimagined Brand Identity

Onkyo, a Japanese brand founded in 1946, is preparing for a new chapter after nearly collapsing a few years ago. A joint venture between Sharp and Premium Audio Company (PAC) acquired the company’s intellectual property, engineering, product development, manufacturing, marketing, and distribution. Under PAC’s auspices, Onkyo has seen an improvement in its fortunes, with recent products like the TX-RZ70 AV receiver earning recognition.

Onkyo’s leadership now envisions a reimagined brand identity, focusing on its roots while embracing innovation. A new logo and refreshed tone will reflect “serious, professional, confident, and polite” qualities, in line with Japanese culture. The company has also opened a new technology center in Osaka, PACTC, where 59 employees with over 1,300 years of experience collaborate to develop cutting-edge audio products.

Key partnerships include collaborations with brands like Sonos, Roon, Dirac, and Qualcomm. Onkyo is set to launch new “Powered by Onkyo” products, such as the Flexus Sound Systems developed in partnership with Klipsch. Future collaborations include a partnership with Marvel Television and Disney+, expanding the brand’s recognition into new demographics.

Onkyo aims to cater to both everyday audio consumers and high-end hi-fi listeners, developing an entirely new range of products. The company will announce its home speaker series and electronic separate series at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. With Onkyo products offering superior sound performance regardless of source or format, the brand is poised for continued success.
