Onkyo Revives Hi-Fi Legacy with Icon Series Components

Onkyo is back in the hi-fi game after a hiatus, showcasing its new Icon Series of separates at CES 2025. The series consists of the P-80 network preamplifier, M-80 power amplifier, and A-50 streaming amplifier. Onkyo’s modern reintroduction aims to deliver unparalleled audio experiences for audiophiles.

The Icon Series features sleek designs with minimal retro touches, while all products are equipped with Onkyo’s patented DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry) technology to reduce noise in higher frequencies and improve audio signal reproduction. All three components feature a 5mm aluminum front panel with minimal buttons and large volume dials.

The P-80 network preamplifier boasts a premium stereo DAC (AK4452) capable of 32-bit/768kHz max resolution, along with streaming features like AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The M-80 power amplifier delivers a claimed 150 watts per channel at 8 ohms, while the A-50 combines key features of the preamp and power amp in one unit.

The Icon Series products are positioned to be competitive in the premium market, with prices starting at $1499 for the A-50. All three components will be available in silver or black finishes, but a release date has not been confirmed yet.
