Online Retailer Temu Stops Shipping China Goods Ahead of Tariff Hike

Temu has stopped shipping products from China to the US ahead of an executive order signed by President Trump, which went into effect on Friday. The company changed its website and app to only display listings for products stocked in US warehouses.

As part of this move, Temu will now handle all US sales through domestic sellers, with pricing remaining unchanged. The company has been recruiting US sellers to join the platform as part of efforts to “help local merchants reach more customers.”

The change comes ahead of a planned tariff hike on imported shipments valued at less than $800, which allowed foreign online retailers like Temu and Shein to sell super-cheap items to American consumers without facing tariffs. The Trump administration has closed a trade loophole that previously enabled cheap goods from China to avoid tariffs.

Temu plans to raise prices as it grapples with the impact of the tariff hike. This move is expected to affect US customers who relied on affordable imports from China.
