OpenAI executives are reportedly considering subscription prices as high as $2,000 per month for their upcoming large language models (LLMs) like Strawberry and Orion. This comes as the company prepares to release its next- level AI product, Strawberry, which can solve complex problems and tasks that current AI models cannot.
The news follows reports of OpenAI’s plans to change its corporate structure to make it more attractive to financial backers. The company currently issues investors equity from its for-profit subsidiary, governed by a non-profit board whose “principal beneficiary is humanity, not OpenAI investors.”
OpenAI has also been reported to be aiming to raise several billion dollars in a funding round that would value the company above $100 billion. This comes after employees sold shares in late 2023, valuing the company at $86 billion.
The company’s current AI model, ChatGPT, remains the market leader with hundreds of millions of monthly users, amidst fierce competition among companies offering AI tools. Potential investors in OpenAI’s upcoming funding round include Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft, and Thrive Capital, which is leading the round.
