OpenAI is planning to expand its data center operations in Texas and other states across the US, as part of a massive investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. The company’s joint venture with SoftBank Group Corp. and Oracle Corp. aims to deploy hundreds of billions of dollars in AI projects over the next few years.
According to OpenAI, several locations in Texas are nearing completion, including a site in Abilene that marks the company’s first data center project in the state. The location will serve as a “flagship” for the new infrastructure venture and support OpenAI’s artificial intelligence services.
The expansion plans come as part of an ambitious goal to deploy significant amounts of power to its data centers, with some facilities expected to use as much energy as a nuclear reactor.
