OpenAI is introducing a new memory feature in its popular chatbot, ChatGPT. This update allows ChatGPT to tailor its answers based on previous conversations with users, making interactions more relevant and personalized.
The feature, called “reference saved memories,” will be rolled out first to paid subscribers of ChatGPT Pro and Plus, except for users in the UK, EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. These regions require additional external reviews due to local regulations, but OpenAI plans to make its technology available there eventually.
The new memory feature aims to reduce repetition by storing information shared between conversations. Users can opt-out of this feature or manage specific saved memories in ChatGPT’s settings. Additionally, users can ask ChatGPT what it remembers or switch to a Temporary Chat for non-stored conversations.
This update builds upon the existing ability to forget or remember specific details requested by users last year. The new memory feature will be enabled by default for those who previously had ChatGPT’s memory capabilities turned on, making the process more seamless.
