OpenAI has introduced “tasks” as a new feature in ChatGPT, allowing users to automate routine tasks such as news briefings, weather updates, and reminders. The beta feature is currently available to Plus, Teams, and Pro users and enables users to schedule tasks to be completed at a future time.
The concept of tasks marks a significant milestone in OpenAI’s journey towards achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which is human-level or beyond human-level intelligence. According to internal documents, OpenAI has five stages of artificial intelligence, with level three being “agents” and level five being “superintelligence.”
Users can start using the tasks feature by selecting “4o with scheduled tasks” from the dropdown menu in ChatGPT. The chatbot will automatically create a task when a message is sent, which users can manage from their Profile’s dropdown menu. Task suggestions are also available, allowing users to approve or reject them.
The features include:
* News briefs and daily weather updates
* Reminders for specific times, such as 7 a.m. daily affirmations or 6 p.m. knock-knock jokes
* Customizable tasks for personal use
Tasks will be rolled out globally to Plus, Teams, and Pro users over the next few days, with the tasks manager available only on the web app initially.
