OpenAI has released its latest artificial intelligence model, GPT-5.2, which the company claims is its most advanced yet for professional knowledge work. The new model surpasses its predecessor in math, science, and coding benchmarks. However, it faces stiff competition from Google’s Gemini AI model, which has already outperformed ChatGPT on certain tests.
To address this challenge, OpenAI has focused on productivity- and work-focused capabilities essential to making ChatGPT the AI assistant of choice for professional workers. The company says GPT-5.2 is better at tasks like creating spreadsheets, building presentations, writing code, perceiving images, and understanding long contexts.
Analysts, including Arun Chandrasekaran from Gartner, say the model shows improvements in reasoning, coding, and working with various inputs such as text, audio, and video. However, they also warn that it may not be enough to win over customers against rivals like Google.
GPT-5.2 is now available to paying ChatGPT users, marking a significant step forward for the company. Despite this, many businesses are still early in their use of AI and have yet to see widespread returns from the technology.
