OpenAI has announced GPT-5.2, just a month after its last update, amidst competition from Google’s Gemini 3. The new model is positioned as an upgrade to everyday professional use, with significant gains in real-world performance and evaluation metrics.
GPT-5.2 will power ChatGPT and be available through OpenAI’s API. It boasts improvements in long-context queries and reduced hallucinations compared to its predecessor. However, the company faces lawsuits and criticism over rushing models to market, despite safety risks.
CEO Fidji Simo denies that the release was rushed, stating that the model is safer than predecessors and has multiple iterations. OpenAI also announced plans to launch an “adult mode” in the first quarter of next year, which will require age estimation system testing.
Early testers have praised GPT-5.2 for its performance, saying it can create spreadsheets, build presentations, write code, and handle complex projects. However, advertising options remain uncertain, with Simo emphasizing that any ads would be done in a respectful manner to protect the chatbot’s special relationships.
