Oppo has launched the Find N5, a foldable phone with a slim design that also boasts advanced connectivity features. The phone can connect to Macs for file transfers and even remote control its display. This is not the first Android phone to offer this feature, but it’s the only one available outside of China.
To link the Find N5 with a Mac, users need to install Oppo’s O Plus Connect app on their device. The process is quick and easy, as long as both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. Once connected, users can browse and transfer files wirelessly between devices, a feature that’s been lacking in file-sharing solutions for Android phones and Macs.
The Find N5 also offers remote control capabilities, allowing users to mirror their Mac’s display onto the phone or use it as a miniature laptop. This function is available both online and offline, making it more convenient than traditional screen mirroring methods. Users can even utilize the phone’s touchscreen in creative ways, such as turning the bottom half into a keyboard for typing or using it as a trackpad with multi-touch gesture support.
However, using the remote control features can be clunky at times due to the small display and limitations of touch-based navigation on macOS. While some users may find this feature useful in pinch situations, its usability is not ideal. Nevertheless, file sharing remains the more straightforwardly practical advantage of this technology.
The Find N5’s connectivity capabilities are a first for Oppo, but another Chinese phone manufacturer, Vivo, has introduced similar features on their devices since April 2024. As the Find N5 launches globally except in the US, users can expect to see more options and features become available in the future.
