Oppo has achieved what many thought was impossible – creating a phone thinner than its previous foldable model, the Find N5. The new device measures 4.21mm when opened and is even slimmer when closed, beating the Magic V3 record-holder.
To achieve this feat, Oppo waited for two years to perfect its engineering innovations, working with suppliers to develop a more compact yet 36% tougher hinge made of light and durable titanium. The company also shaved millimeters from every aspect of the device, including the impact-resistant display packaging and new ultrathin silicon carbon batteries.
The Find N5’s battery is particularly impressive, packing a massive 5,600mAh capacity into an impossibly thin package. Oppo’s innovative battery technology uses 10% silicon in the electrodes, a first for phones, allowing it to maintain stability during fast charging sessions.
However, Oppo’s chief engineer believes that 10% silicon is already the limit of current technology and that further reductions would compromise performance or safety. The phone’s USB-C port is even reinforced to meet its ultra-thin design requirements.
When asked if Oppo plans to release another foldable flagship in the Find N-series every year, the company revealed that it works with suppliers to develop meaningful innovations and will only do so when there are enough breakthroughs to justify a new model. This approach breaks the conformist annual upgrade cycle paradigm and suggests that Oppo is committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in foldable technology.
