Oprah Book Club Adds Eric Puchner’s “Dream State” to Reading List

Author Eric Puchner’s new novel, “Dream State,” has been chosen by Oprah Winfrey for her book club. The 432-page narrative explores a love triangle among two old college friends and the woman they both desire, set against the backdrop of Montana and California. In an interview with Winfrey, Puchner discussed his inspiration for the book, including a disastrous wedding he attended and the changing landscape of Montana due to climate change.

Puchner, 54, is an associate professor at Johns Hopkins University and has written three previous books, including the story collections “Music Through the Floor” and “Last Day on Earth.” Winfrey’s endorsement could mark a shift in Puchner’s career, as he hopes to reach more readers with her support.

Winfrey praised Puchner’s writing, calling it “exquisite” and saying that “Dream State” is an exploration of the relationships we have in our lives. The book club has been established by Winfrey since 1996 and is currently presented in partnership with Starbucks.
