Oregon Officials Warn of Flu and Pertussis Outbreaks

Oregon health officials have issued a warning after two children died from the flu this season. According to the Oregon Health Authority, nearly 500 people were hospitalized for the flu in three counties, with cases over three times more than last year.

The data shows that fewer people are getting flu shots, with a 4% decrease in vaccination rates compared to last year. Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, has seen a significant rise with over 1,100 cases reported in Oregon last year, the highest number since 1950.

Health officials are urging everyone to get vaccinated and reminding the public that prolonged cold symptoms lasting more than four weeks should be consulted to a doctor. With the flu season underway, officials are advising people to take necessary precautions to protect themselves.
