Orioles Fire Manager Brandon Hyde Amid Disappointing Start

Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde was fired on Saturday, with the team hoping a new leader can spark a turnaround of their struggling team. Despite helping lead the Orioles to two postseason appearances, Hyde’s 15-28 record and underwhelming start left the team 10½ games behind the first-place New York Yankees in the American League East.

General manager Mike Elias took responsibility for the poor start, stating it was his duty to pursue changes to set a different course. Elias praised Hyde’s contributions to the organization but acknowledged the need for change.

Hyde’s dismissal comes amid an underperforming offense, one of baseball’s worst pitching staffs, and middling defense. The Orioles have received limited offensive help from players like Gunnar Henderson, Cedric Mullins, and Ryan O’Hearn. Their pitching has been disastrous, with a 5.33 ERA, the worst in the AL and third-worst in MLB.

The team’s struggles were highlighted by the loss of key players Corbin Burnes to free agency and injuries to Jordan Westburg and Colton Cowser. Players expressed surprise at Hyde’s dismissal but acknowledged their own need to improve. The Orioles’ new interim manager, Tony Mansolino, will lead the team as they look for a turnaround.
