The Baltimore Orioles have signed catcher Samuel Basallo to an eight-year extension worth $67 million, locking up one of the top prospects in baseball. The deal includes a $5 million signing bonus and can max out at $88.5 million. As a slugging left-handed hitter, Basallo has impressed in his short time in the big leagues with elite bat speed and exit velocities among the best. He joins a growing list of young, talented position players developed by general manager Mike Elias since 2018.
