The Baltimore Orioles have made several roster changes following a lethargic 9-0 loss to the New York Yankees yesterday. Reliever Yennier Cano was optioned after the game, and reliever Yaramil Hiraldo has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk.
Cano had a rough outing, giving up four runs against the Rays in just two-thirds of an inning. However, interim manager Tony Mansolino cited bullpen fatigue as the reason for making the move. “We need a fresh arm,” Mansolino said. “You have to look at the big picture, right?”
Catcher Adley Rutschman is dealing with a mild left oblique strain and will not return until after the All-Star break. Outfielder Tyler O’Neill resumed his rehab in High-A Aberdeen, while infielder Jordan Westburg sits out today’s game with a sprained left index finger.
The Orioles are looking to bounce back from yesterday’s loss, facing off against the Yankees at 11:35 am. Maverick Handley will catch, Ramón Laureano will bat designated hitter, and Ramón Urías will play third base. Dean Kremer takes the mound for the Orioles, who have a 3-3 record on their current road trip.
Meanwhile, the Yankees have placed right-hander Ryan Yarbrough on the injured list with a right oblique strain and recalled left-hander Jayvien Sandridge from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The game will feature several key players, including Aaron Judge and DJ LeMahieu.
