Oscar Honors Tom Cruise, Dolly Parton and Others

The Academy of Arts & Sciences has announced its winners of the honorary awards, which will be presented at the upcoming 16th Governors Awards. This year’s recipients include four legendary individuals who have made significant contributions to the film industry.

Tom Cruise is set to receive an honorary award for his “incredible commitment” to filmmaking, stunts, and the theatrical experience. Known for performing many of his own stunts, Cruise has fueled box office success with films like “Top Gun,” “Mission Impossible,” and “Rain Man.” He has been nominated four times for Oscars but has yet to take home a trophy.

Debbie Allen will receive an honorary award for her nearly five-decade-long career in acting, singing, dancing, directing, producing, and choreographing. The Emmy-winning actress and choreographer has worked on numerous films and TV shows, including “Ragtime,” “Fame,” and “Amistad.” She is being recognized for her trailblazing work that has captivated generations.

Wynn Thomas will receive an honorary award for his work as a production designer. He collaborated with director Spike Lee on several films, including “Do the Right Thing” and “Jungle Fever,” which helped shape Lee’s career. Thomas also worked on Oscar-winning films like “Hidden Figures” and “A Beautiful Mind.”

Dolly Parton will take home the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her humanitarian efforts. The singer and actress has long used her fame to promote charitable causes, including her work at Dollywood. With a long history of nominations for original song Oscars, Parton’s commitment to human welfare and rectifying inequities makes her an ideal recipient of this award.

The honorary awards will be presented on November 16 at the Governors Awards ceremony in Hollywood.
