Oscar-Nominated Director Claims Made Zero Dollars for Brutalist

Brady Corbet, director of the Oscar-nominated film The Brutalist, revealed that he made zero dollars from the movie. During an interview on WTF With Marc Maron, Corbet said that making ads in Portugal was his first source of income in years.

Corbet and his wife, Mona Fastvold, also made zero dollars on their previous film, Vox Lux, released in 2018. The Brutalist earned 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Actor for Adrien Brody and Best Picture.

The financial struggle is not unique to Corbet, as he stated that many filmmakers face similar issues due to the lengthy press circuit and constant travel. Corbet completed 90 interviews last week and said it’s like an “interrogation” without a break.
