After weeks of uncertainty, the 2025 Oscar voting process is finally getting back on track. As firefighters gain control over wildfires across Los Angeles, the Academy Awards are gearing up for their annual ceremony.
In a series of adjustments due to the ongoing blazes, the nomination deadline has been extended twice. The new deadline is January 17, and the nominations announcement was rescheduled from Friday, January 17, to Thursday, January 23 at 5:30 a.m. PT.
Despite these changes, one thing remains unchanged – the ceremony date. The 97th Oscars will still be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre.
Industry insiders had initially considered canceling in-person screenings and presentations due to the devastating impact of the wildfires on the community. However, the Academy has opted for a virtual event instead.
The ceremony is expected to acknowledge the firefighters and aid workers who’ve been working tirelessly to combat the blazes. The Academy aims to use this opportunity to celebrate the resilience and compassion of its members while also honoring those impacted by the disaster.
Nominees predicted by Vanity Fair include Cynthia Erivo in the Best Actress category for Wicked, Colman Domingo as potential Best Actor for Sing-Sing, and Zoe Saldaña as a possible Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez.
