AEW’s first-ever Australian tour brought together some of the biggest names in wrestling for an action-packed show. The main event saw a thrilling performance from Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega, who defeated Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita with a combination of their finishers.
Ospreay and Omega kicked off the night with a phenomenal match that showcased their chemistry and skill. They traded control with the Australian duo, but ultimately emerged victorious to set up future rivalries between Ospreay-Omega and Fletcher-Takeshita.
In other matches, Mercedes Mone successfully defended her TBS Championship against Harley Cameron, while Kazuchika Okada defeated Buddy Matthews in a highly competitive bout. The latter match saw an impressive performance from Okada, who used his Rainmaker finisher to secure the win.
The night’s showstopper came when Thunder Rosa regained the women’s title by defeating Mayu Iwatani (not May) in a hard-fought battle. However, the real surprise of the evening was the injury-plagued wrestler who made her return in a high-stakes match against a tough opponent from across the pond.
Despite some delays and confusion surrounding the event, AEW Grand Slam Australia proved to be an entertaining and well-crafted show that exceeded expectations. The Australian crowd’s energy was palpable throughout the night, making for a memorable experience for fans at home.
