A disc golfer in Myrtle Beach witnessed an extraordinary encounter between an osprey and a shark at the Splinter City Disc Golf Course. The osprey was spotted carrying a small hammerhead shark, which is rare for birds of prey to catch. However, its meal was soon interrupted by two crows that chased it into a nearby tree.
According to experts, mobbing behavior from crows isn’t unusual in springtime, when smaller birds team up to chase away potential predators or competitors. The osprey’s hunting prowess is also on display, as it can dive from 100 feet at speeds of 50 miles per hour to catch prey.
The incident left the disc golfer and his friends stunned, but a later post on Facebook helped provide some answers for fellow players who were baffled by the random shark sighting.
